Activities in Broadcasting
Jean-Paul Linnartz researches transmission methods and frequency planning for
broadcasting. In particular, he is interested in novel modulation schemes such as OFDM and
Multi-Carrier CDMA . He is guest editor of a special issue on multi-carrier
communications for Kluwer's International Journal on `Wireless Personal Communications'.
He also researched FM sub-carrier transmission schemes, such as RDS. Conditional Access
and multi-media communications are new research topics.
- In 1991, J.P. Linnartz conducted a study on the
frequency planning in the FM broadcast
band in The Netherlands as a consultant to the broadcast organizations SALTO and OLON.
This report was quoted in several policy notes by Dutch Ministry of Public Health and
Culture (WVC) and the Netherlands Broadcast Transmitter Company (NOZEMA).
- He is author of an number of scientific papers and also of a series on broadcasting issues in
magazines (e.g., Soundcheck, Carstudio), national newspapers and weekly news journals.
- He worked on programmes with several radio stations, including Regionale Omroep Zuid
in Maastricht, and Arcan Radio, Belgium. He is co-founder of the Stichting Stads Radio en
TV (START-) Geleen.
